INDINAPOLIS, IN (WTVB) Indiana Governor Mike Braun signed a law this week officially banning marijuana advertising.
The signature comes just one week after the Indiana General Assembly passed House Bill 1390 on April 29, the last day of the state’s 2025 legislative session.
HB 1390 primarily provides clarification on Bureau of Motor Vehicles procedures. However, the bill also includes language prohibiting advertising in any medium for products containing marijuana or listed as a Schedule I controlled substance.
Currently, recreational marijuana use is legal in three of the states surrounding Indiana: Michigan, Ohio, and Illinois.
As a result, many of the states’ marijuana businesses have advertised in Indiana to encourage consumers to purchase and partake in the recreational activity while across the border.
Under the new law, any form of marijuana advertising within state lines could face fines of $5,000 for first-time offenders and $15,000 for repeat offenders.
The state notes that marijuana advertising under active agreement cannot be canceled, and can legally remain up until 2035, This comes just one week after the Indiana General Assembly passed House Bill 1390 on April 29, the last day of the state’s 2025 legislative session.
A number of Branch County dispensaries have billboards in the Hoosier state as far south as Ft. Wayne.
Why hasn’t he signed the bill to make it legal, all the other surrounding states are legal , why not make Indiana legal. Does he not realize how much better it would be for police officers being able to go after actual drug dealers , or how much it could help people with cancer , as someone on chemo , I am SICK TO DAMN DEATH of puking my brains out eroding my throat from the medicine, and being allergic to zofran, tornado, compozine, phenergan, reglan & even Pepto , I get NOTHING to stop the vomiting , but God forbid he sign it into law to be legal to use.
It’s because of Eli Lilly and many other companies who’s lining the governments pockets… you definitely wouldn’t need as many prescriptions with cannabis in your life.
On top of him still not making it legal yet PA legalized it , Josh Shapiro legalized it for PA , ffs , why isn’t IN making it legal.
What is wrong with him, no matter what it’s never going to stop being advertised
If they didn’t legalize marijuana in the state of Indiana I would be okay. Marijuana has always been a problem and now they want to legalize it? I’m good!
Name one time marijuana was a problem without sounding like some ignorant idiot that knows nothing about marijuana.
I’ll wait.
We appreciate your business and your tax dollars
It’s CLEAR that Lillys n other MEGA DRUG DEALERS has Braun in their pocket like Halcomb( worst Governer in history , alot of blood in his hands allowing anyone even brainless to carry n get mad n shoot n kill)!!! SO HERE WE ARE with a leader/well boss who’s NOT working for the people. He’s just like his former , letting LILLYS take some farm land now n tell the farmers ” Oh well we’ll build around them. Arrogant Corporate snotz!! I HOPE theirs a journalist or 2 that will look into Halcombs Financials and Braun as well.
Just give it to us already, we’re surrounded by legal states.
This is the MOST useless law. What a huge waste of money. It’s not like taking down billboards is going to keep people in Indiana from knowing EVERY STATE AROUND Indiana has legal cannabis nor is it going to prevent people from crossing the state lines to buy it.
But apparently Indiana is rolling in money so the loss of income that could be made can just keep on flowing out of the state. Not to mention BRAUN ran his campaign saying he was going to legalize. Hmmm Lily get in your ear? Or the rest of the pharma titans running the state behind the scenes?
Drove by the pot stores in New Buffalo the other day going to Heston Bar and Grill
All Indiana and Illinois plates at these head shops. Indiana is 30 years behind the times. Braun must be hanging out with the Project 25 fools.
Wow. I’m so glad this time and money was spent using my tax dollars on something this important… I guess the state knows much more about priorities and the problems herein than me. This govenor is a joke! He see’s thia bill more important than anything else going on? You sir are ridiculous. I bet more time was spent on this dumbass bill than about the property tax one…. You would be an idiot to vote for this guy again! This advertising bill will do nothing for anyone in Indiana… “current agreements could remain until 2035” Look how fast this moved along compared to anything helping Indiana residents and the economy we are in let alone heading for…. RIDICULOUS WASTE OF TIME AND RESOURCES!
Wow, complete opposite of what was promised, instead
They like all the revenue they get from people drinking and doing pills. And all the narcam they buy, what should be banned is anything that show cases alcohol, because cannabis isn’t legal, both my sons became alcoholics and my grandfather, my uncle and 3 best friends have died from it…not one has died to smoking cannabis, you hear now it leads to heart problem, heart disease, what doesn’t, you rather bury your babies for drinking, possibly drinking and driving, I can tell you, I drove home once 28 yrs ago after drinking, I woke up didnt know how I even got home, it scared the sh!t out of me..so bad I never did it again…I became a cannabis user..you guys should be ashamed, publicizing alcohol when ever you want..and banning NATURE!!! your so ignorant makes me wanna puke..we will have to pay when we meet God, I’m so glad I won’t be sitting in your shoes, a lot of deaths on your hands Sir…good luck with that.

First the legalize delta..and wait it out…since they need to advertise…he knows this..he knows they will make money putting a ban up…collect all those tickets on store owners advertising what a complete evil thing, .. he’s like Zacchaeus
On the bible ripping people off scamming, ..wow no shame
With a millions soon to be billions of shortcomings of funds that this state is lacking for all of the surrounding states are reaping the benefits of legalizing marijuana because these elected officials are too busy pushing their fake Christianity onto the whole state. I’m a Christian and I’ll be the first to tell you these elected officials are the furthest thing from Christians. They are nothing but wolves in sheep clothing. True Christianity is a hospital for sinners not a temple for Saints. They are spending our tax money and flaunting it on personal leisure pleasures like SUVs with all the bells and whistles, that’s just one example. They keep taking and taking it and we keep paying and paying getting nothing in return. The property tax bill is a complete joke. Personal income taxes are going to go through the roof AND no more than that bill was signed, we already got a letter from that accessor’s office that raised the value of our property. So the whole thing was a complete waste of time for all of us. The only thing that was accomplished was we’re going to pay more personal income taxes and our houses are appraised more by the county.
Now if this pot advertising can be guaranteed until 2035 because it’s already paid for, that means they’re not going to be legalizing until at least 2035. What are they brainstorming to make up for the by then billions of dollars that the state will lose out on for money? Indiana is rapidly dropping in the rankings. Mississippi will be ranked higher than Indiana in about a year or two, wait and see.
Clown
To all you MJ advocates out there, the farm bill for hemp allows you to buy products with not only CBD products, but many with THC (Delta 9 & Delta 8). Check CBD stores, smoke shops and for liquid high liquor stores. No extra tax on these products, and they will get you high the same way MJ does. Thery even sell flower, along with gummies, chocolates, oils, and vaping products. Be informed and educate yourselves. Perfectly legal in the US and can be shipped to your home by shopping online.
Most people heading to a dispensary don’t need the ads, anyway. But when will our state get with the times? Legalize it and help our residents!
Great law! The fines are not enough on either offenses. They should start out as a ‘class D” felony and a $25,000 for the first offense and $100,000 for the second offense thereafter.
The fact that they won’t legalize is the reason me and many more tax payers are leaving Indiana. Let’s leave them with the homeless and unemployed then see how they act…smmfh
In 1974 Richard Nixon and J. Edgar Hoover ordered Federal agents to break into the science laboratory of the University of Virginia, destroy the test equipment, and steal and destroy the workers’ notes. Why? Because the lab had discovered that cannabis could reduce tumors and destroy cancer cells. Nixon hated the hippies of the late 1960s. Like the beatniks of the 1950s they called him, “Tricky Dick”. Hoover wanted a new Prohibition, to keep his army of agents ‘in the field’ of criminalizing Americans. Yet, within a few years, the Guzman Study in Spain, and UCLA’s Tashkin 30-Year Population Study confirmed Virginia’s findings. Small wonder that cannabis has been worshipped as sacraments by most of the world’s major religions. To the Christians it was the Biblical Tree of Life. Why a ‘tree’? Because it could grow to ten or twelve feet high. And people used to be shorter. If you were all of five feet tall, folks called you, ‘Stretch’, and wanted YOU on THEIR team.
Yes Indiana has the largest drug manufacturers in the world spending alot of money expanding there enterprise’s. I think they will not allow cannabis to be legalized in Indiana. True fact :
