Soon patients in Iowa will be able to purchase medical cannabis products for treatment.

Wednesday, the state's only medical cannabis manufacturer MedPharm Iowa unveiled its three products that will hit dispensary shelves December 1st.

The capsules, cream and a solution will vary in CBD and THC.

That's the part of cannabis plants that provide health benefits.

Which product a patient needs will depend on the type of illness and treatment plan.

Company leaders say this is just the first step.

"This is a historic day for MedPharm Iowa but really for the patients across this state," Lucas Nelson with MedPharm Iowa said. "This is the first time legal medical cannabis products have been formulated and are going to be available. Releasing them today signals a major milestone that we've reached and hopefully will excited the patients out there who will benefit from these exact products you've seen today."

Iowa lawmakers approved a law allowing the manufacturing and dispensing of medical cannabis products in 2017 but only for certain conditions such as Crohn's disease or HIV.

Advocates hope to expand that list.

Meanwhile, Missouri could soon become the 31st state to allow medical marijuana.

Voters in the Show-Me-State will see three amendments on next month's ballot, all outlining different plans.

Even if they all pass, only one can be enacted. The selection will be decided based on what's outlined in the state's constitution.

In Illinois, patients can apply for a state medical marijuana card as part of the Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Pilot Program.

Those who meet certain requirements can have their doctor sign off to verify they have a qualifying condition.

The Illinois Department of Human Services has more information on qualifying conditions and how to apply on its website.

And while medical cannabis products were being unveiled in Iowa, Wednesday also marked the day Canada became the second country in the world to legalize marijuana for recreational use.
