Nebraska state senators host forum on medical marijuana legislation
LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Medical marijuana has been at the forefront of the Nebraska Legislature since voters approved it in last November’s election, but rolling out the rules around it has been anything but easy.
Multiple state senators held a public forum in Lincoln to address where the legislation is and hear from people on their ideas.
Those senators discussed the recent changes made to get that bill out of committee and onto the floor for debate.
It was modified to take away smoking as an option of consumption and removed PTSD as a qualifying medical condition. A majority of those attending the forum stressed the importance of getting this across the finish line, including one man who’s suffered from prostate cancer and said opioids aren’t solving the problem.
“This, however, brings me peace,” said Glenn Henry, from Lincoln. “It brings me relaxation. It puts joy back in my life, because hey guess what? I can move around today.”
“71% of the people voted for this,” said Craig Bolz, from Palmyra. “Do what the people have asked. This wasn’t 49-51 -- this was a huge majority.”
This forum is the first of three this week, the other two will be happening in Omaha and La Vista over the next two days.
