
Four Minnesota Players Notch Multiple Hits in 16-7 Loss to Iowa

MINNEAPOLIS- Four Minnesota players collected at least two hits, but the Golden Gophers fell to the Iowa Hawkeyes 16-7 Thursday.
Sophomore Cole Selvig (2-0) got the ball to start for Minnesota (11-12, ) and took the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Golden Gophers first put runs on the board in the first inning. Minnesota managed to push across two runs in the inning.
The Hawkeyes then rallied to score four runs and take a 5-2 lead before the Golden Gophers got back on the board in the third. Junior Easton Richter came across to score the lone run of the inning for Minnesota, which tightened the Hawkeyes lead to 5-3.
Minnesota held the Hawkeyes off the scoreboard before narrowing the gap to 5-4 in the fourth. The Golden Gophers scored once on an RBI single off the bat of junior Drew Berkland.
The Hawkeyes expanded their lead to 9-4 before the Minnesota offense got back in action, cutting into that lead in the sixth. Sophomore Landen Lozier crossed home plate with the lone run of the inning for the Golden Gophers, bringing the score to 9-5 in favor of Iowa.
Iowa built on their lead to 16-5 before the Golden Gophers offense got back in action, reducing that lead to 16-7 in the ninth. Minnesota scored twice on junior Weber Neels' two-run homer. The Golden Gophers were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
