SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (WNCN) — A man from Aberdeen is facing felony charges after 100 ecstasy pills and 434 grams of marijuana were found in his car by officers in Southern Pines.

Angelo Everett McLean III was arrested on April 8 following a traffic stop. The Southern Pines Police Department said McLean was stopped on U.S. Highway 1 near Pennsylvania Avenue initially for a “violation of North Carolina motor vehicle law.”

That infraction, police told CBS 17, was that McLean’s license plate light was not functioning.

The light violation led to a K-9 search of his vehicle, which led to the discoveries of the ecstasy and marijuana, police said. A few items of drug paraphernalia were also located in the search.

McLean, 37, is now facing nine charges, including:

  • Trafficking ecstasy (two counts)
  • Possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana
  • Felony possession of marijuana
  • Felony possession of schedule I controlled substance
  • Maintaining a vehicle for the sale of controlled substances
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • No operators license
  • Vehicle equipment violation

McLean has been taken into the custody of the Moore County Detention Center in Carthage. He was given a bond of $150,000 by the county magistrate pending his first appearance in court set for April 25.
