U.S. Marshals capture North Carolina drug fugitive on Alabama rooftop

A fugitive out of North Carolina captured in Alabama Monday.

Michael Dean Williams, 44, was taken into custody in Anniston by the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force, the Oxford Police Department and the Calhoun County Major Crimes Unit.

A warrant for Williams was issued Oct. 26, 2020 in the Western District of North Carolina after U.S. Probation Office officials carried out a search of his property and found him in possession of methamphetamine, marijuana and possession of a shotgun. He was wanted for a supervised release violation.

Authorities said Williams has a lengthy criminal history starting in 2005 including conspiracy and distribution of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, carrying a concealed weapon, resisting arrest, trafficking methamphetamine and conspiracy to distribute controlled substances.   Williams is potentially facing a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years on the supervised release violation.

Deputies from the Western District of North Carolina recently sent a lead to U.S. Marshals in the Northern District of Alabama that Williams was likely in the areas of Anniston or Talladega.

Williams was located in Anniston where he was hiding on the roof of a residence on Nokomis Pass.  He was taken into custody with a backpack that contained methamphetamine and heroin.

After he was arrested, authorities found a large amount of heroin, four guns and other suspected illegal drugs in the residence.

The DEA is responding to the residence to assist in the drug seizures. Additional charges are possible.
