Note to self: When throwing a communal pot party with your friends, don’t invite that one buddy who allegedly has a history of robbing people.

Such was the nearly fatal faux pas a 25-year-old Fall River man made when police say he included a man nicknamed “Zeus” when reaching out to friends on Facebook in the hopes of arranging a “match,” that is, getting together with a group of people who pool their marijuana and smoke it.

Officers Kiel Huard and Brendan McNerney responded to a reported armed robbery in an apartment on the 100 block of Tremont Street about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The host told the officers that when his guests learned that “Zeus” was invited, they complained, claiming that he robs people, Robinson said.

But “Zeus” didn’t take kindly to being disinvited and showed up anyway, the detective said, triggering a confrontation on the porch.

“ ‘Zeus’ demanded the marijuana by yelling, ‘Where’s the weed,’ pulling out a gun and striking one of the friends in the head,” Robinson said.

As luck would have it, the detective said, this “strike” caused the gun to malfunction by ejecting the magazine.

A photo array was later used to identify “Zeus” as one Jesus Escobar, 24, of Fall River, Robinson said, and he was later arrested at a nearby housing complex on charges of armed robbery, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, and possession of a firearm without a license.

Escobar pleaded not guilty yesterday in Fall River District Court and was held without bail, pending a Feb. 2 dangerousness hearing.
