Louis Madrigal Alvarez and Enrique Ramirez, both of Modesto, California, were charged with possession of marijuana of more than 50 pounds but less than 2,000 pounds — a second degree felony.

According to a Texas Department of Public Safety news release, a trooper stopped a 2017 Dodge car travelling south on U.S. 287 near Vernon at about 8:04 p.m. for a traffic violation. During a search of the vehicle, the trooper discovered marijuana inside luggage in the vehicle, the release states.

The marijuana weighed about 55 pounds, was valued at about $333,000 and allegedly was being transported from California to Dallas.

Madrigal Alvarez, 21, and Ramirez, 51, were taken to the Wilbarger County Jail. The release did not state a bail amount for either man.
